Research Interests
My major research focus is on pharmacotherapy of childhood asthma and predicting response to asthma therapy.
I am the Principal Investigator for the Denver Site of the NHLBI AsthmaNet clinical research network. This multicenter collaborative network designs and conducts studies to address major issues of therapeutic intervention in childhood and adult asthma. Our site has lead a series of studies addressing significant clinical questions on the use of inhaled glucocorticoids in the treatment of asthma including patient phenotypes and genotypes associated with various degrees of response.
I am also a co-investigator for the Denver Site of the NIAID Inner City Asthma Consortium. I lead a protocol on the effect of therapeutic interventions to prevent asthma exacerbations that occur in the fall season. I am the Director of our center's site for a Colorado State Cardiovascular, Cancer and Pulmonary Disease Grant that focuses on asthma in the Denver Public School system. Our program is a combined epidemiology and case management program designed to help reduce school absence due to asthma.
Our research group also investigates asthma progression, early infant asthma and the management of severe childhood asthma.
